30+ Ideas for Romantic Ideas

Romantic summer date ideas are really a thing for me to consider now, when planning my monthly budgets, over the summer period.

The summer holidays are nearly upon us in the UK, and have already started in the US.  I have been on a mission, considering what me and Mr. Budget could do as a couple, mostly on a budget this summer. I want to surprise him with a couple of spontaneous things over the  holidays, but also I want to really have fun doing the simple things we enjoy together.

I might make a small commission from these sales, but it doesn’t affect the price to you. Thanks for your support for my blog guys.

Buy Some Fun Underwear

There’s nothing better than to surprise your other half with some new sexy underwear. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or uncomfortable, but one idea could be to surprise them with it on one evening you are spending in. People love spontaneity don’t they? I personally love Oysho. Their bodysuits are so sexy. (I am not an affiliate for them)

Go for a Picnic

Enjoy your summer afternoons by going for a picnic.

Things you will need:

Coolbox

Picnic Blanket

Or a picnic set could work out cheaper

Picnic set

Do you guys enjoy hiking? Pick this cooler – it is basically a cooler backpack.

Go for a romantic summer stroll

Another romantic thing to do in summer, would be to take a stroll around your local park or around the outside of your town or city. It’s great just to get out and have some fresh air, especially as you could potentially have quite a busy schedule. Quiet time, walking around and chatting about the past, future and relaxing in each other’s company is always fantastic at this time of year.  It would also work as romantic date, if you have a new boyfriend or girlfriend.

Treat Yourself to a Coffee in Town and People Watch

Me and Mr Budget indulge in this simple pleasure every week, but in the holidays we particularly enjoy chatting about the people we see. We make up their life stories, and just love appreciating all the different people we see. Trust me, this never gets boring – particularly with a big town!

Get active –  do sports together

At this time of year, the world is pretty much your oyster. Do some tentative questioning first. It may be that your date would love to go surfing, but hey maybe not. Taking a surf lesson is pretty cool and active fun, or maybe you could try mountain boarding, kayaking, swimming or even horse riding down the local beach.

If you live near the countryside or a national park, maybe your date could go for a short hike as mentioned above, and have your picnic overlooking a great viewpoint.

Go for a bike ride

Another fun date idea would be to plan a bike ride. Maybe plan lunch in or dinner and then ride back after relaxing. Research online your local area and get out and about!

Visit a theme park

One fun date idea for couples in summer, would be to check out your local theme park. If your date is a thrill seeker, this could be an action-packed day. In summer there tends to be wrist band deals. Pack a picnic and it need not be too expensive.

Massage

Another cheap romantic date idea would be to give your partner a full body massage, and run them a nice warm bath to relax in after. Buy a beautiful oil to massage with.

Movie Night

Buy a copy or rent online your partners favourite movie, or it could even be a summer classic, you both enjoy. Stock up on your favourite movie snacks and drinks. Settle down on the couch and just purely enjoy relaxing in each other’s company.

An alternative idea would be to have a box set marathon!

Make Dinner Together

One of the best romantic date night ideas, in my opinion, is making dinner together. Agree on what your favourite dinner is and enjoy making it together. What makes you both feel summery? Use seasonal vegetables that you can buy cheaply from the local market. Have a lovely cool drink or homemade cocktail afterwards. You could make it more special by setting the table with lit candles and turning the lights down.

Watch a sunrise/sunset

What better way of bonding over a drink of coffee early in the morning, or late at night, but watching the sun rise or set. Go to a clear view point in the car and relax in each other’s company for an hour or so!

Watch sport outside

Me and Mr Budget like to share our lazy summer afternoons watching a local game of cricket. Last time we went, we enjoyed a drink and a sunbathe, while we sunbathed. Brilliant!

Go to a Quiz Night Together

Another fun thing to do in winter, is to test your wits in a quiz. I was pleasantly surprised at exactly how much useless information Mr Budget actually knew. It also got us chatting about the questions we were asked – I felt like I got to know him so much better and all in a few nights quizzing. Plus, it was so funny because he loves to whisper silly comments to me, to try to make me laugh, when everyone is soo serious! Try it, you will find it hilarious!

There are literally thousands of things now that I think I want to do. Now I am going to stick to 4 or 5 things, so that we have time to relax and have space away from work also. Balance is everything to us.

Have a beach day

If you are looking for brilliant dates on a budget, having a beach day is definitely up there! Pack towels to lie on, your lunch and drink supplies and just enjoy the day. You could enjoy feeding each other lunch, swimming in the sea. If you fancy a more active date, some beaches operate horse riding on the beach, or rent a surf board for the morning.

Have a Carpet Banquet

Another thing on my list of fun things to do at home with your boyfriend or girlfriend is a ‘Carpet Banquet’. This is our word for buying either a takeaway or supermarket Chinese meals/starters and arranging them on the living room floor like a buffet. It’s amazingly simple and inexpensive, but me and Mr Budget started this when we originally had no money to spare at all. Unsurprisingly, we still enjoy it as much, because it is about enjoying each other’s company and sharing food. It’s such a special, romantic thing to do at home, even if you have kids in bed and the baby sitter cancels.

Go to a museum

Why not wander hand in hand whilst checking out your local museum. The brilliant thing is that they are usually free to get in. Take some selfies in front of the stands and displays.

Find out more information about museums in the UK.

Road trip to a new place

Why not whisk your date off to a new place they have never been before. It could be a full day, including a stroll, or just for brunch or lunch. Play your favourite music on the trip.

Go to an outdoor concert

A brilliant way of breaking the ice is by going to an open air concert or play. These are just so different – you really feel part of what is going on, rather than just watching. I love the fact that you can laze around, wrapped around each other and listen to some fabulous music or watch a classic play by for example Shakespeare.

Have a water gun or balloon fight

For the most athletic and those that don’t mind getting wet on a date (you need to be sure first!) this is sooo much fun, and can be a great idea when going out on a group date.

Head to Amazon for ideas

Go camping

One summer date idea for when you know each other a little better. A lot of fun can be had for not much cash. You could take a tent up to the Lake District for example, and walk around Grasmere, taking in the beautiful scenery and shop in the cute little local shops.

The National Trust has a list of great campsites where you can camp or glamp.

Go boating

In terms of romantic summer date ideas, another could be to take a kayak out or if you are really confident a canoe, or power boat. National parks have great websites, which will help you get in touch with boat hire companies.

Lake District things to do – water

Cocktails outside

One of the best date nights I have ever had was when Mr Budget made cocktails for us at home. It’s so much fun and especially in summer, when you can sit out on the deck, star gaze, talk about random stuff and sip away.

Head over to amazon for a cocktail making set

Farmer’s market

Most towns have these advertised online now. They are brilliant fun to wander around. Me and Mr Budget people watch, indulge in the obligatory coffee and love to look at all the stalls. What a lovely way to spend an afternoon. You can spend as much or as little as you can afford.

Book an Escape Room

Basically this is a strategy game, where you have to work as a team to get out of a room that you are locked in. This definitely a fun activity for couples at Christmas, if you are needing to get out of the house. It would be worth booking though, because these centres are very popular and book out quickly. Breakout is an example in Manchester.

Go to a trampoline park

Seriously, if we are focusing on romantic summer date ideas for the active person, this is brilliant! I guarantee you, you will not be able to stop smiling after this date. Trampoline parks are so much fun for a summer date when it’s raining. Examples include: Flipout and Energi.

Play crazy golf

I think and Mr Budget bonded faster over this than other dates. Mostly he spent the time laughing whole-heartedly as I missed for the 15th time, but it was hilarious fun! He did the cute thing of helping me with my swing, which was sweet. We soon forgot about the score, we were laughing so much.

Redbull has a list here of the best crazy golf courses in the UK.
